Dear Readers,

Welcome to another issue of The Photon. Here at Maryland, Spring has arrived. This is a very exciting time of year for us because it’s filled with special events celebrating our campus and its many members – from faculty and staff to students and alumni. Just this past week, we celebrated the hard work of our administrative staff with a special tea for Administrative Professionals Week, our College honored some of our outstanding students, staff and alumni at the annual Spring Academic Festival and the entire campus opened its doors to the entire community for the 7th annual Maryland Day. Despite the rainy weather, the event was a great success, providing more than 30,000 visitors with a day of exploration, learning and fun.

I would like to thank the many, many individuals who worked so hard to make all of these events successful. Whether we are showing our appreciation, honoring individual accomplishments or putting our best foot forward for our neighbors and friends, each of these events plays an important role in making our Department and our University great.
