by Matthew Schwartz (Avoid anything but
5th printing, from which many errors are removed!)

Homework:
usually assigned weekly and due the following week.
Please include your
name and the homework and course
numbers and staple the pages
together.
Late homework accepted
only under dire circumstances. If you
know it will be impossible for you to
turn in an assignment on time, you
must discuss this with Prof.
Jin advance of the
due date. Medical reasons
accepted only with a doctor's note.
Help doing the homework is always available at
our Piazza web forum or directly from the TA or the professor.
Try to say where and why you are stuck. Answers are generated
at Piazza at all hours of the day and often rather late at
night.
It would be
detrimental to your learning, and
unfair to your classmates, to make use
of solutions to the problems found
online or elsewhere. It is
therefore strictly forbidden to make
use of such.
You may freely discuss the homework with anyone you
like, but the
work you turn
in should be
your own
formulation,
and should
reflect your
own
understanding,
and you should
be prepared to
explain and
defend it on
your own. In
particular, you
may not copy
someone else's
solution, even
with small
variations.
(Note: it is
easy to detect
this when
grading.)
The consequences of violating these rules are drastic.

Each student must
turn in Homework 0 with a signature,
showing that homework policies have been read and
understood.
Grading: The course
grade is based on the homework. There will be no
exams. The letter grade corresponding to a total
numerical score will be determined after reviewing the
class performance as a whole.
