SPEAKER: Thomas Mehen - Duke University TITLE: Effective Field Theory for Charmed Meson Molecules ABSTRACT: The X(3872) is an unconventional charmonium state which is probably a molecular bound state of neutral charmed mesons. If so, properties of the X(3872) can be described by an effective field theory (XEFT) for shallow bound states similar to those applied to two- and three-nucleon systems. For some properties of the X(3872), XEFT makes parameter-free predictions at leading order and allows systematic computation of effective range corrections and other higher order effects. XEFT can also be used to analyze processes such as decays to charmonium which are sensitive to short-distance aspects of the X(3872). In this talk, I will review calculations that have been done using XEFT and discuss their implications for the interpretation of X(3872).
