Speaker: Abhi Nellore, Princeton University Title: Capturing QCD thermodynamics in gravity: a bottom-up approach Abstract: Black hole solutions to five-dimensional gravity coupled to a single scalar afford a rich variety of equations of state. In this talk, I will explain how to get from action to equation of state, and I will exhibit a representative sample of squared speed of sound vs. temperature plots. My focus will be on one example that resembles the QCD equation of state as obtained from the lattice. I will discuss some implications for quark-gluon plasma physics in light of the AdS/CFT correspondence.
