Superconducting Quantum Computing Seminar Schedule

 

The QC mini course will meet Mondays and Thursdays in Room 0360 (the Superconductivity Conference Room), starting on Wednesday, June 22.  Monday meetings will be at 11:00 AM, and Thursday meetings will be at 10:00 AM.  There will be no meeting on Monday, July 18.  Below is a very preliminary course outline, subject to discussion and revision.


A.  Basic superconductivity (Lobb)

  3. Gap and quasiparticles.

B.  Basic GL theory (Lobb)

  1. Why GL equations?

  2.  Phase in GL theory.

    a.  GL "derivation" of Josephson equations.

    b.  Introduction to SQUIDS.

    c.  Vortices.

C.  Junction fabrication (Paik)

D.  Basic QM

  1. Dirac notation, postulates, Hermiticity (horrible neologism), etc. (Palomaki)

  2. Superposition and entanglement. (Strauch or Wellstood)

  3. Quantum mechanic description of superconducting circuits. (Dutta)

E.  Two-state systems (Lobb or Wellstood or Lewis)
  1.  Pauli matrices

  2. Bloch sphere

  3.  Rabi oscillations.

F.  The density matrix (Wellstood)

G.  Bloch equations and whatever possible from Xu's Thesis chapter 4 (Wellstood)

H. Numerical simulations (Strauch)

  1.  Straightforward integration.

  2.  Split-operator techniques.

I.  Some simple qubit gates, 10 qubit experiments (Przybysz)

J.  Quantum algorithms (?)
