5 de Mayo, 2006 (Charles Hawkins)

Today is the last day this semester we'll be doing donuts. So no need to report for your shift next week. I'm typing this from the donut table, and our donuts will be over for the semester in about... eight minutes. Donuts will resume in the fall.

I haven't had time to properly format and edit the minutes from the last meeting to post them, but the main announcement is that bowling is going to be on Thursday the 27th. We'll meet in the lounge at 5:00.

April 12, 2006 (Charles Hawkins)

There's a meeting tomorrow (Thursday). Lounge, 5:00, pizza, you know the drill. This time, however, Bernie won't be attending, so Brislin will be running the meeting. See you there.

I'd like to remind everyone that as a result of the incident on Friday, the lounge has been irradiated and should be avoided at all costs until the radiation cleanup crew arrives. They are currently working full-time in CSIC to clean up the radiation leak resulting from a mistyped config file in one of the Linux Lab machines, and should be able to attend to the Lounge sometime next week.

As the accident occured near the doorway, it is not clear whether radiation contamination reached the vending machine or not. We are currently looking for a volunteer to try one of the beverages in the machine after the spill is cleaned up, to determine whether they are still safe to drink. Please note that we cannot at this time afford to reimburse you for the cost of the drink, or any resulting medical expenses. If you would like to volunteer, please say so at the next meeting, which will be held in the hallway outside the lounge at a time which is currently TBD.

We thank you for your patience in this matter, and appologize for any inconvenience this may cause anyone.

There's a talk tomorrow (Wednesday March 29) by Dr. Goodman. It's titled, "Neutrinos at the South Pole". The talk is at 5:30pm in the Toll Lounge. And I just realized that the fliers I made say it's on "Wednesday March 27", which is incorrect, as the 27th was yesterday and the talk is tomorrow. Sorry for the mix-up. See you there.

The impossible has happened. I have actually updated the roster with members who joined last semester. If this includes you, please check the roster to make sure your name and email are spelled correctly. If they aren't, email me with the correct spelling of your name and/or email address. You should also email me if your name does not appear at all or if you don't want your email to be on the website.

I'm working on typing up the application to the national SPS. When it's done, I'll post it here as a .pdf file. Then you'll be able to download and print it, fill it out, and give it to us along with $10 if you want to be a member of the national SPS. You aren't required to do this to be a member of this local chapter, but we encourage you to do so.

Okay, the minutes from the meeting yesterday have been posted. During spring break, I will update the roster with those who joined last semester. Really. I mean it this time.

As discussed at the meeting, we're considering doing bowling. If we do this, it'll be on a thursday afternoon, 5:00ish or so. It will only come to pass, however, if we get a response from at least 15 people or so that they will do this. If you can and will participate in this activity a couple Thursdays from today, please email Bernie, myself, or the listserv as soon as possible. Even if you raised your hand at the meeting, and even if you emailed the listserv last month to register your willingness, please do so again. We want a single, up-to-date count of how many people want to do this. Thanks.

There's a general meeting this Thursday. It's at 5:00 pm in the lounge.

February 19, 2006 (Charles Hawkins)

We've scheduled the first talk of the semester. Dr. Wellstood will be giving a lecture about quantum computing on Tuesday. It's at 5:15 pm in the Toll Room. There will be pizza.

February 19, 2006 (Charles Hawkins)

I've updated the members section of the roster with the new members for this semester. I will add the ones whe joined last semester as soon as I have the paper with names on it. If you joined this semester, please go to the roster section and make sure I spelled your name and email address right. If I didn't, email me and I will correct it.

February 19, 2006 (Bernie Gabin)

Talk this week: Dr. Wellstood on Quantum Computing, Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 5:15 in the Toll Lounge. Pizza will be served.

February 16,2006 (Bernie Gabin)

Today's meeting is accuatly an Officers meeting and is starting at 5:30 in the Lounge. All Officers please attend.

February 9, 2006 (Charles Hawkins)

Ok, I've updated the doughnut roster and the Officers section of the SPS roster. We have a full staff for doughnuts, so doughnuts starts this Monday (February 13). Don't miss your shift!

Also, tomorrow is Movie Night. We'll be watching Serenity and Underworld. Its around 6 or 7 pm or so. Meet in the lounge if you're early; if no one's there, the movie itself will be showing in room 1410. Another thing, we need someone to drive Clay home afterwards. If anyone can do this, send an email to the listserv.

February 2, 2006 (Charles Hawkins)

A bit short notice, but there's a meeting today, February 2, at 5:00 pm. As usual, it's in the physics lounge. We'll be welcoming any new members and deciding on events activities for the coming semester. There will, of course, be free pizza and demonstrations.
