Minutes for October 7, 2004

"Meeting is in order!" Proclaimed in a prophetic voice, Ari, the Treasurer of
SPS, and the meeting began at about 5:05 pm.

The first topic for discussion was weekly games with the graduate students. 
It was proposed that we play games other than soccer, e.g., kickball, 
baseball, frisbee, and so on. But no food will be served at these events. 
It was decided that one would consider playing kickball, soccer, or frisbee
depending upon what people want to play. There will be a game tomorrow, 
October 8th, 2004 at about 4:30 pm ish, and people are invited. We will most
probably meet at the physics undergraduate lounge, and then proceed to the
venue of desire.

The second topic dominated the rest of the meeting, i.e., the fridge. As 
many people know, there has been about $115 missing from the expected
fridge items sale, and we really need the budget balanced. Now that being 
said, there were numerous options for the restart of the fridge. We are 
thinking about installing a vending machine in the lounge to store the 
soda and the food so that we do not have this problem again. But we are 
still waiting upon the vending machine, and the final decision will not be
made until the machine arrives. Also, in the mean time, we would like 
people to pay up their tabs, if they have one, and also donate as much 
money as they can to help balance the fridge budget. Furthermore, if the
fridge project is restarted, we will keep track of the money exchange and
if this incident takes place again, we will completely abandon the project
in its entirety.

On a lighter note, there is supposed to be a talk by a professor from the
computer science department on comrpession algorithms on October 14th, 2004,
next Thursday, at 5:00 pm. It is sincerely requested that there be no 
"What if you..." questions asked at the talk, as it would lead to several
meta digressions and the flow of the talk would be interrupted. Also, it
would not reflect good upon the physics department. So, please consider 
this when you are at the talk.

Next order of business was cleaning of the lounge. We are planning on having
the lounge completely cleaned up on October 22nd, 2004, i.e., a friday and 
the time for the cleanup will be decided upon in the upcoming meetings. 

That being said, the meeting was adjourned about 5:40 pm.
