Minutes for September 16, 2004

The minutes for this week are concise, and not funny. Here is the break down
of what happened:

Meeting was called to order by the President of SPS, Kim, at approximately
5:05 pm. First item for business - Donuts. The significance of donuts was
explained to the new members. John mentioned that not all slots have been
filled for the donuts shift for the week. Therefore, the donuts will not be 
taking place during the week of the 20th. A prospect of free trade coffee
was also discussed, along with its benefits.

It was indicated by the Treasurer, Ari, that there is enough money in the 
SPS account to do something, i.e., have some event. 

Second item for business - walk for the cure of Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation. The walk will take place on October 2, 2004 on a Saturday, and
directions will be sent out via email on the listserv. A donation box was 
planned to be set up at the donuts table, once they start. Also, the walk
is 3 miles long. 

"Return tupperware," said Trey to Sean.

Possibility of other events was discussed, along with the prospect of 
registering for the National SPS charter. The membership for the national
charter costs approximately $10 (may have to check with the President again), 
and includes a subscription of Physics Today magazine. 

Third item for business - Bar-B-Q. Ari tried to talk to the grad student 
named Brad about Friday's Barbeque and soccer event, but the grad student 
could not be located, and Ari mentioned that the answer to soccer question
would probably be no. So, movie night was considered as a possibility 
in soccer's stead. The movie to be watched, if no soccer, is 
"Boondock Saints." 

Alex brought up the idea for a backyard party with barbeque as a 
non-sps-sponsored event. Further decisions still need to be made about this.

Fourth item for business - card access. It was brought to attention that
one requires a "pass" from the physics department "if" one has a 24/7 card
access to the SPS lounge and the physics building. Further information will
be obtained and distributed later.

"The end," spoke Kim.

"Go home," murmured the secretary.
