Minutes

Minutes for Septemeber 9, 2004 Hey guys, the following took place at the first SPS meeting for the new students: "Everybody be quiet!" Exclaimed a voice of might and power, as if God himself descended from the Empyrean to shower his wrath upon the wretched. Oh wait...it's Erin, our SPS vice-president. So began the meeting at approximately 5:05 pm. Ari, our treasurer, welcomed everyone to the meeting, and to the lounge. "6 out of 120 [physics students in the department] isn't so bad," proclaimed Ari with a hint of disdain. Next began the introduction of the SPS officers, that soon led to the discussion of donuts by our donut czar John Milne. The donuts were explained to the new students, and are still scheduled to start on Monday, September 13, 2004, unless not enought people are signed up for the shifts. This discussion soon led to the topic of games. And speaking of games, who would like to play some Footbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal? It is also known as soccer in the US. There is a soccer match proposed between the undergraduate and the graduate physics students of the department. It is scheduled to be held on 24th of September, 2004 in the afternoon about 3 pm ish. Oh by the way, there is also going to be a barbeque. This idea was further extended to include a regular team for games throughout the semester. That topic of discussion quietly developed into the topic of movie nights, which was decided to be decided later. Mailing list was explained to the new students, and its importance to the SPS people. Card access was discussed, and how one could be obtained. In short, if you want card access to the SPS lounge, and don't have one, you need to email Lorraine de Salvo about this with your student id number at the following address: desalvo@physics.umd.edu. You can only have access to the lounge if you are a physics student. In addition, you should also have access to the physics building. If not, then email Lorraine. Food was another topic on the list. I kinda dozed off about that time to get anything down. I just got the following two words during this discussion, i.e., "food" and "topic". Anyways, this topic wasn't that important anyways. Off to the next topic. Oh yes...Physics is Phun, or was it the lounge rules. Wait, maybe it was food tab. No, it was soda cans. Yes...no. Wait, deja vu. A mysterious figure with thick beard is sighted at the lounge window. A glitch in the matrix? Maybe. But hey we all know who this is: "It's Sean," exclaimed a voice, and everyone clapped in his honor. Wait a minute. This sounds familiar. Oh well, I think maybe I'm too hungry. Next came in Bernie and Clay with demos of liquid nitrogen and other gizmos to amaze the new students. Ah screw it. I'm too tired to type anymore. Wait... Bernie with demos. Did I miss this? I guess I didn't because it seems as if Bernie did not mess up the demos. It got a bit boring watching Bernie do demos and not burn anything, or destroy the room. So, I left, and so did the meeting, I guess. If it didn't. Oh well, I was too tired to stay. And too bad. The End.

Back to the list of minutes.
