Minutes

Minutes for 12 December 2002 of the University of Maryland Chapter of the Society of Physics Students, College Park, Maryland Meeting was called to disorder at 5:05 PM. And again at 5:07 PM And again at.. well, you get the idea. We elected new officers. Our new organization leadership for 2003: President Mark Binfield was barely elected, after a strong showing by the chair running in absentia. Vice President Robert Schroll will remain in office another semester. Secretary will be Mia Bovill (yes, again). Treasured Ryan Fisher was elected to another term. Bernie Gavin (Bernie? Did I spell you correctly?) was named as our new Doughnut Czar. Keavin and Lucy will be training the new officers in their duties, and taking them on a grand inspection tour to meet the departmental officials they'll be working with this year. (Please note, I did not specify who was being inspected here). A proposal was made that perhaps, in the interests of ease of recruiting, there should be an honorarium for the Czar. As we already have a new czar, this issue was tabled until next semester in short, Mark: This is your problem. Please sign up for doughnuts! Tonight's demos included the Van de Graff generator raising Rich Ott's hair and producing prodigious discharges, the electromagnetic can smasher (which broke again), the ice bomb, optical activity in organic syrups, and other fun messes. Lucy organized yummy food for us- the best kind of Greek life, tabouli and hummus! See you all next year.
