University of Maryland ChapterThe Society of Physics Students is a diverse group of students hailing from all parts of campus. While a majority of our members are physics majors, we have members in areas ranging from computer science to government and politics. Many members are double majors in subjects a little closer to home, such as math or astronomy. Our meetings are every Thursday, and include a variety of speakers as well as cool physics demonstrations. Anyone from the university is welcome to attend, and physics majors are, of course, particularly welcome. The meetings are held in the Toll room of the Physics Building at 6:00 PM. Our activities are both academic and recreational. We sponsor talks by faculty, graduate students, and even undergraduates. The many research facilities nearby welcome us for visits. We also maintain a test bank and offer course advice and even tutoring. In between all these events, we find time for movies, parties, dinners at restaurants throughout the DC area, and trips to amusement parks, skiing, whitewater rafting, and the Maryland Renaissance Festival. The physics undergraduate lounge in room 1302 of the Physics Building is a popular spot for our members. The room is divided into a lounge section, with couches and a microwave, and a study section, with a blackboard, tables, and a library. You will often find students here discussing topics from physics to existentialism to the history of medieval Europe. Our members tend to be very Internet-active. Consequently, the easiest way to get in touch with us or find out more about us is through the internet. If you want to get in touch with our group, join, or simply be added to the mailing list, email our President, Erik Crowe .
