Physics Department Shop - Safety Rules

  1. You are not allowed to work in the shop alone.
  2. You must operate all equipment and tools in a safe and proper manner.
  3. Safety glasses are required at all times.  Other protective equipment must be used when required (e.g. face shield,  goggles, safety shoes, ear plugs, etc.)
  4. Long hair must be tied back and jewelry must be removed to prevent possible entanglement with rotating machinery, tooling or parts.
  5. Injuries must be reported immediately to the Shop Supervisor and arrangements made to go to the Health Center or local hospital for treatment. An "Employer's First Report of Injury" MUST be completed and returned to the Department's Facilities and Personnel section within 72 hours.
  6. All tools, supplies and equipment should be cleaned and returned to their proper storage place once you have finished.
  7. No tools or equipment should be removed from the Student Shop without the explicit permission of the Shop Supervisor. Proper sign-out procedures must be followed.
  8. Broken tools, malfunctioning tools or machines, and/or dangerous conditions should be immediately reported to the Shop Supervisor, either in person, or in writing.



Questions pertaining to interpretations of these rules should be directed to the Shop Supervisor.
