Physics Department Shop - Home

The Physics Department Shop has the mission of supporting departmental research efforts by providing a facility where faculty, students and staff  may develop their own mechanical apparatus. Having such a facility within the department can save much time and money for research groups.

This safe and modern facility is well equipped with the machine tools and hand tools necessary to fabricate intricate, precision parts from most engineering materials. Tolerances can be achieved by a skilled operator to the order of + or - .002  inch (.05mm).

Mentoring, design consultation and supervision are provided by the resident machinist. There is also a formal class offered for those needing to learn the safe and proper use of this equipment. There are no prerequisites or experience necessary. Click here for the course syllabus.
