What's New in Personnel

The 2006-2007 Performance Review and Development
cycle will be ending March 30, 2007. The process ends with the actual
Performance Review, at which time the supervisor and the employee meet
formally to discuss the employee's performance during the review period
(3/30/06 - 3/30/07).
Self-Assessments may be completed by the employee
throughout the review period and may serve as a discussion point during
appraisal session. Forms are available in Lorraine DeSalvo's office.
The final review session should serve to provide
the actual ratings and also to discuss areas to be developed.

These policies consolidate four categories of
employees (Associate Staff, Classified-Exempt, Unclassified Staff and
Academic Administrators) into one group of employees, which will now be
referred to as Exempt Staff. Additionally, the program offers an
opportunity for the USM to better retain, recruit and reward valued
employees in today's competitive marketplace.
In order to address best business practices, the
development of this program included the research of
information from our market competitors. The unique needs of our
various institutions required the creation of policies which establish
consistent USM principles, yet recognize the importance of flexibility
at each of the institutions. These policies are designed to be fair and
competitive for all Exempt Staff. The policies may be viewed on the Web
at: WWW.USMH.USMD.EDU/PPEX/.
