ENGINEERING SERVICES

The Engineering staff provides formal design engineering services,
including material and hardware specification, mechanical design, finite element analysis, codes and standards compliance, and consultation in
these areas. Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) is used for projects
requiring formal documentation. Estimates will be provided upon
request.

FABRICATION SERVICES

The MDG is a full-service machine shop capable of fabricating parts to
very close tolerances from a wide variety of materials. Parts can be
produced ranging in size from two cubic meters down to two cubic centimeters, with tolerance ± 0.001 inch (under most conditions).
Under ideal conditions dimensional differences can be resolved down
to 20 millionths of an inch.

Services available include but are not limited to

•  Precision machining and grinding

•  Electrostatic discharge machining

•  Precision sheet metal work

•  Structural and heliarc welding

•  Vacuum welding and brazing

•  Vacuum or pressure leak checking

•  Sandblasting, polishing, heat treating and chemical finishing

In addition to a full compliment of manual machine tools, the shop
employs two computer numerically controlled milling machines
capable of producing almost any shape that can be defined
mathematically. Parts designed on customers' CAD systems can be submitted as computer files in DXF (AutoCAD) or IGES format,
converted by our software into machine-ready code and transmitted
directly to the machine tool.

Our chemical finishing facility is equipped to produce a clear or color
anodized finish, or chromate conversion on aluminum parts, electroplate
or passivation on stainless steel, and bright-dip on copper.
