I. Why do intro physics students have so much trouble with math?
- In trying to reach a larger fraction of our introductory physics students, we often find “they can’t do the math”.
- Is the problem inadequate preparation in math? Or is it subtler than that?
- Many of our problem students received A’s and B’s in their calculus class.
- Context dependence is a well known phenomenon in cognitive response. Is there “something about physics” causing trouble?
