Vector products

In the Physics I, we introduce two “products” between vectors: the dot product and the cross product. Pick one of these and define how you would calculate it for two arbitrary vectors. Then discuss why we introduce this product and give a physical example where it would be useful. Note: This is an essay question. Your answer will be judged not solely on its correctness, but for its depth, coherence, and clarity.
