Positions Available

1.  Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Gravitation Laboratory at the University of Maryland-College Park (UMCP) is seeking applications for a postdoctoral position in gravitation experiments, possibly opening as early as March, 2012. The position is for two years with the possibility of renewal for additional years. The Gravitation Laboratory is co-directed by Professors Ho Jung Paik and Peter Shawhan, to develop very sensitive superconducting gravity gradiometers and perform precision tests of the laws of gravity, as well as gravitational wave detection. Competitive applicants should have background in cryogenic technology and/or gravity experiments.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vita, list of publications, and a description of past research and current/future research interests, and should arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent to Professor Ho Jung Paik at hpaik@umd.edu. It is requested that all application materials be sent as pdf files or as plain text. Please merge all application materials (other than letters of recommendation) into one pdf file, if at all possible. The deadline for receipt of all application materials is January 31, 2012. The University of Maryland is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.

2.  Graduate Research Assistants

The Gravitation Experiment Group is often looking for aspiring graduate students who will join our frontier research on gravitational wave detection using laser interferometers and searches for new forces. We are primarily interested in students who have already passed the Qualifier and are ready to start dissertation research.

If you are interested in joining our group or finding out more about our projects, please contact Professor Paik or Professor Shawhan.

3.  Undergraduate Students

Opportunities are often available for undergraduates to contribute to the Gravitation Experiment Group research programs and to gain hands-on experience in physics research instrumentation and methods. For more information, please contact Professor Paik or Professor Shawhan.
