Gate operations and decoherence issues in solid state quantum computers

Xuedong Hu

(Department of Physics, University of Maryland)

Abstract:  We study feasibility issues of various solid state quantum computers (QC). In particular, I will discuss major decoherence channels for confined electron spins in solids, which is relevant for quantum dot and donor electron spin QCs. I will also discuss various possible operational errors of a quantum dot QC, such as gate errors and inhomogeneity, and how they can be minimized and corrected. Finally, I will present some preliminary results regarding the states and the pulse gate of the Cooper pair box variant of superconducting quantum computers.
