PNCE User Doc: Public Physics Mailing Lists

List of Public Departmental Mailing Lists

Although most of the mailing lists maintained by the Physics Department are closed and restricted to members of the department, the department does run a few more open lists. These are detailed here.

Some of these lists automatically subscribe members of other departmental lists, meaning that you probably do not need to subscribe to these if you are a member of the department. If you are not receiving mailing from the list and you believe you should have been subscribed automatically due to your affiliation with the department, please contact:

It is likely in such cases you not be correctly placed in the departmental mailing list structure and may be missing other important emails. In some cases, not all members of the department are subscribed to the list because we believe the list is not of general interest, e.g. staff are not automatically subscribed to the colloquia list. You are, of course, welcome to subscribe yourself even in those cases; you should just check you are properly on the lists to ensure your email did not slip through the cracks.

If you are receiving mail from one of these lists and wish to unsubscribe, you should be able to do so using the subscribe/unsubscribe link listed with the list. If you are a member of the department and were automatically subscribed, this is a bit tricky; you will need to:

  1. Subscribe directly to the list
  2. Edit your subscription options for the list and select NOMAIL.
This should override the settings in the closed departmental list for this open list, and allow you to stop receiving email.

Whether a member of the department or not, feel free to contact PCS if you need assistance unsubscribing from a list. Please list your affiliation (e.g. undergraduate, graduate student, faculty member, etc. ) with the department in these requests, along with all email addresses you believe you may have used to subscribe to the list. Forwarding a copy of an email received with full headers could be helpful (see Purdue University's instructions on forwarding mail with full headers or MSU's instructions or Columbia University's instructions).
