National Nanotechnology Initiative "Grand Challenges" Workshop

Professor Ellen Williams will particiate in a workshop to define "Grand Challenges" in the field of nanomaterials for the next five years (and beyond) for the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI).

Held at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and chaired by Prof. Robert Hull of the University of Virginia, this workshop plans to define opportunities and goals for the field of nanomaterials for the next decade, to determine how such opportunities and goals will enhance the future missions of the NNI, and to identify a handful of "Grand Challenges" whereby nanomaterials can be anticipated to provide major scientific, technological, and economic breakthroughs. The output of this workshop will be used by the NNI Working Group for use in laying the foundations for future funding beyond the current status of the NNI as a five-year program (2001 - 2005).
