December 16, 2005 - Holiday Party/ TA Awards

The Physics Department held its 2005 Holiday Party, on December 16, in the Physics Building lobby. The event united the Physics faculty, staff and students. Teaching Assistant awards were given out during the celebration.

The University of Maryland 's Department of Physics awarded the Ralph D. Myers, 2004-2005, Teaching Assistant Award to Nick Setzer. The $500.00 award is in recognition of his outstanding teaching performance. Brian Christy and Brad Conrad were each awarded $250.00 for the Runner-up positions.

October 19, 2005 - Staff Appreciation Ceremony

On October 19, 2005, the Staff Appreciation Ceremony was held in the Toll Room of the UMD's Physics Department.Tom Payerle received the Chairs Outstanding Employee Award for being an effective worker with departmental members and/or outside contacts. The chairman award is given in recognition of staff members who have proven to go beyond their regular duties, to promote positive,professional and personal exchanges among fellow associates.

Kari Aldridge received the Sibylle Sampson Award. The award is given to an individual whose one-time project helped with the overall mission of the department.

In addition, the following staff members were given their Service Awards:

30 years: Kari Aldridge and Janice Hall

25 years: Joyce Robinson

20 years: Randy Holder, Bernie Kozlowski and Tuck Owens

15 years: Tom Payerle, Gracy Sewlall, Brian Straughn, Jack Touart and Russ Wood

10 years: Bob Dahms and Meei-Ching Ma

5 years: George Butler, Tom Gleason, Anh La, Reka Montfort and Jody Reed

December 03, 2005 - Sixth Annual Alumni Association Awards Gala

The event recognized six alumni association award recipients and 12 college/school distinguished alumni.
