Dear Readers,

I hope you are all enjoying the summertime, finding at least a few moments for some well-deserved relaxation. This time of year, the department’s halls are less boisterous than what we’re used to, but faculty, students and staff are still working hard towards discoveries and advancement in physics. Just one piece of evidence of such hard work is the very full “Congratulations” section in this issue of The Photon. I am very proud to say that so many members of our physics family have recently been rewarded for their achievements – from our most distinguished professors, to our newest alumni to our promising undergrads.

So, don’t miss all our congratulations as well as several other exciting news items. In the Fall, we’ll have a full issue, including spotlights on alumni and faculty research. Until then, have a great summer, carefully blended with productivity and fun!
