· Many congratulations to Tim Dulaney, an undergraduate physics student. Tim is one of an elite group of science and engineering students from across the country to be awarded a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship Award. The scholarships will cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year for two years. Established in 1986 to honor Senator Barry M. Goldwater, the scholarship is designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering.

· Congratulations to Professor Madeleine Joullie, wife of Professor Emeritus Richard Prange and a longtime friend of the Department. Dr. Joullie, professor of chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, was recently elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Congratulations Dr. Joullie!

 
· Professor Rabindra Mohapatra has been honored with the prestigious 2005 Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany.

· Congratulations to alumnus Jeff Saul (Ph.D., ‘98). He won the 2005 Best Paper Award at the 16th International Conference in College Teaching and Learning, held this March. "Teaching activity-based Introductory Physics in large Classes: The SCALE-UP project” by Saul and Beichner was chosen as the best of approximately three hundred papers submitted to the conference for peer review.
