World Year of Physics Celebration

As part of the international World Year of Physics 2005 celebration, the University of Maryland Department is proud to host several events celebrating the centennial anniversary of Albert Einstein's “miraculous year” of 1905, his most prolific year.

To begin the celebration, the Department is hosting a distinguished lecture series featuring reknowned physicists such as Nobel Laureates Leon Lederman, Anthony Legget and Sheldon Glashow; as well as Michael Turner, assistant director for mathematical and physical sciences at the National science Foundatio; John Stachel, director of the Center for Einstein Studies at Boston University; and Benoit Mandelbrot, recipient of the 2003 Japan Prize.

On April 30, 2005 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., the Department of Physics and the entire University of Maryland, invites alumni, friends and the greater Baltimore-Washington, D.C. community to our campus for a day of learning, exploration and fun for all ages!

Spring Commencement

On Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 7 p.m. in the Comcast Center, the University of Maryland campus will host its annual Spring commencement ceremonies.

The College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences will honor its graduates on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Reckord Armory.
