Perception and Illusion:
The Physics of Light and Optics

T
he University of Maryland Union Gallery hosted an exhibit of interactive physics demonstrations from the Department of Physics' world-class Lecture Demonstration facility, operated by Professor Richard Berg.

Focusing on the human visual system and principles of light, the exhibit showcases visual illusions and hands-on learning demonstrations - and highlights some of the exciting current research conducted by Maryland physicists. The exhibit began on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 and continues through February 4.

Physics Holiday Tea

The Physics Department celebrated the winter holiday season and the end of the Fall 2004 semester with an afternoon tea. The Department's many research groups and administrative areas brought an extensive array of munchies and confections to share. Many thanks to the staff members whose organization and festive flare made the afternoon so memorable.

   
December 18-19, 2004 Commencement Ceremonies

On December 18, 2004 at 7pm at the Comcast Center, the University held its campus-wide commencement ceremony. The following day. The College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CMPS) will hold its commencement ceremony the following day, December 19, 2004, at 10am in the Dekelbaum Concert Hall of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center .
