Dear Readers,

I hope you are all enjoying the summertime. It is my pleasure, in this issue of The Photon, to report that many of our faculty, staff, students and alumni have been recognized for their hard work and outstanding successes. In academia, it is tradition to honor our shining stars in the springtime when the academic year is winding down and the excitement of graduation and upcoming vacation is in the air. Therefore, each summer I have the opportunity to share these accolades with you. And each summer they seem to grow in quantity and in caliber. This issue's long list of honors and awards demonstrates the commendable work of so many people in our Physics at Maryland community. And it is truly my pleasure to report that they are being recognized for it.
