From the Editor

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the April issue of The Photon! Spring is here and we have so much going on around the Department. Don't miss all this month's news - award recipients, newsmakers, upcoming events and more!

Also, I want to take this opportunity to encourage the entire Maryland Physics community to share your activities with The Photon and its readers. Faculty, staff and students, too - I would love to hear from you when you win awards, give invited talks, host a special seminar or have your work published (just to name a few examples). I also encourage you to let me know when you hear of the accomplishments of a colleague. Sometimes those who are the most successful are also the most bashful. Let's be sure to give our colleagues the credit they deserve.

To our alumni, I hope you will also keep the Department informed of your professional successes. The Photon's goal is to report on the activities of the Maryland Physics community and our alumni are a very important part of that community. I very much want to hear your news and share it with our faculty, staff and other alumni.

If you have an item to submit to The Photon, please email me at karrie@physics.umd.edu. Or, if you prefer U.S. mail, you can reach me at:
