· Joseph M. Kirshner, Department of Physics Alumnus, passed away January 30, 2004 at the age of 84. Mr. Kirshner received his M.S. in physics from the University of Maryland in 1952. In addition to his successful career with the Army's Electronics Research and Development Command, he taught physics courses at several colleges and universities in the area, including the University of Maryland. The Department extends its sincerest condolences to Mr. Kirshner's family and friends. |
| · Elizabeth Alley, loving wife of Physics Professor Carroll Alley, passed away February 7, 2004. She was the Curator of Visual Resources at the University of Maryland's School of Architecture for more than 25-year and a long-time community volunteer. To Dr. Alley, long time friend and colleague, and his family, the Department extends sincere condolences and support during such a difficult time. |
