· Congratulations to Professor S. James Gates! He has received the University's Minority Achievement Award. In addition to excelling in both research and teaching, he has dedicated much time and effort to recruiting minority students.

 
· Congratulations to Physics alumnus Matthew Hill. He has been awarded the American Geophysical Union's 2003 F. L. Scarf Award for his 2001 PhD dissertation. The award was established in 1989 by the Space Physics and Aeronomy Section to recognize an outstanding dissertation that contributes directly to solar-planetary science.
 
·Congratulations to Professor Ho Jung Paik! He was elected as the 26th President of the Association of Korean Physicists in America (AKPA). His term starts May 1, 2005 and ends on April 30, 2007. Prof. Paik will first serve as the Vice-President of the Association from May 1, 2003 to April 30, 2005.
 
· Congratulations to Lila Snow on the publication of her new book With a Name Like Tuchmacher, an autobiographical work about the journey from Brooklyn, NY to the worlds of art and academia. Ms. Snow's late husband George Snow was a professor here in UM Physics for many years. Ms. Snow is a great friend of the Department and we wish her the best of luck with this endeavor.
