Optical Board Configuration
Basic setup of Optical Board for most
demonstrations.

Important parts and accessories include:
- 3'6" x 7'6" white particle board.
- rail along top for hanging components.
- all optical components 3" wide.
- 250 Watt fan-cooled quartz halogen light source.
- 20cm focal length cylindrical lens for limiting horizontal beam
spread.
- position adjuustment of light source both vertically and horizontally.
- optical component storage slots below and behind board.


Production of a narrow beam of parallel rays using a single
double convex lens,
and a wider beam of parallel rays using a
plano-concave lens in combination with a double convex lens
in the white and the colored ray modes.
Major optical components include:
- two 18" spherical double convex lenses.
- one 18" hyperbolic double convex lens.
- one 18" hyperbolic double convex Fresnel lens.
- two 18" plano-concave lenses that can be combined into a single double
concave lens.
- one 30" full-silvered plane mirror.
- one 10" half-silvered plane mirror.
- one 10" two-dimensional corner reflector.
- one 18" spherical convex mirror.
- one 18" long focal length spherical concave mirror.
- one 18" short focal length spherical concave mirror.
- one 18" combination spherical/parabolic concave mirror with identical
focal lengths.
- 10" diameter circular disc.
- 10" diameter semicircular lens.
- 10" short focal length plano-concave lens.
- two 7" equilateral prisms.
- one 10" right angle prism.
- one 5"x10" rectangular block.
Smaller optical components for performing ray tracing:
- 2" front surface plane mirror.
- 3" front surface plane mirror.
- 4" front surface plane mirror.
- 4" half-silvered plane mirror.
Baffles with 1mm slits for defining light rays:

- (left)
- 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 slit close-spaced white ray baffles.
- (center)
- 5 slit irregular white ray baffle.
- 4 slit asymmetric and symmetric white ray baffles.
- 3 slit wide spacing white ray baffle.
- open rectangular baffle.
- (right)
- 3 slit asymmetric colored ray baffle.
- 5 and 7 slit symmetric colored ray baffles.
- 5 slit irregular colored ray baffle.
Setup for production of principal rays emanating from the tip
of an object arrow.
A half-silvered mirror produces the central ray and the object
vector
and a rotating front-surface mirror produces rays from the object
tip.
