PURPOSE: To show a velocity multiplication effect in colliding balls.
DESCRIPTION: This commercial gizmo has four balls of graduated masses on a central shaft. Dropping the whole assembly causes the smallest ball on the end to fly off with considerable velocity due to the elastic collisions of each ball with a sucessivly smaller one.
SUGGESTIONS: Drop it as near to vertical as possible. Released from about six feet, the red ball will strike the ceiling in the lecture halls. Try not to lose the small red ball.
IMPORTANT: Do not let the little ball hit the front (coated) surface of the rear projection screen, because it can be easily damaged.
