The figure below shows a cone which has been cut four times by a flat saw blade. The shapes of the intersections of the saw cuts with the outer surface of the cone are known as "conic sections." The four conic sections are, in alphabetical order, the circle, the ellipse, the hyperbola, and the parabola.
The four conic sections are identified on the photograph by letters A, B, C, and D. You are to identify the four conic sections labeled in the photograph with the formal names given above. For example, the cut labeled A may be a hyperbola, B an ellipse, etc.
