Subject: CASE 35152151 {ID:2843424} Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 09:18:32 -0500 From: support@ti.com To: hb46@umail.umd.edu Q: Customer needs to use this part as a receiver, and he needs to know what to do with the unused pins, and if the reference clock is needed or not. A: The unused transmitter pins should be tied to ground through 50W. The part will function if they are left open, but tie-off is preferred. Unused inputs can often be left open when there's an internal pull-up or pull-down. These include LCKREFN, PREM, TX_EN, TX_ER, ENABLE, LOOPEN, PRBSEN, and TESTEN. The TXDx pins should be pulled high or low. GTX_CLK is critical. It drives the PLL from which the recovered clock is generated, even though the recovery takes place through a phase interpolator.
