Post-doctoral opening
in Theoretical Gravitational-Wave Physics
The Maryland Gravitation Theory
Group announces an opening for a
postodctoral position in theoretical gravitational-wave physics.
The initial appointment is for one year, renewable contingent
on continued funding and satisfactory performance.
The relevant research areas for this position are: gravitational-wave
source modeling; the interface between analytical and numerical
relativity;
data analysis; post-Newtonian theory; physical mechanisms in
the early Universe
responsible for gravitational-wave emission;
quantum measurement theory
and its applications to advanced laser-interferometer
gravitational-wave detectors
operating at
and below the standard quantum limit.
The Maryland gravitation theory group consists of Professors Dieter
Brill,
Alessandra Buonanno, Bei-Lok Hu, Ted Jacobson, Charlie Misner
(Emeritus),
and Manuel Tiglio, postdocs Etienne Racine, Yi Pan,
Thomas Sotiriou,
and 5 graduate students.
The gravitation theory group has also interactions with the Maryland
Gravitation Experimental Group, Professors Ho-Jung Paik and Peter
Shawhan,
the Astronomy Department, notably, Professors Cole Miller and Chris
Reynolds,
the LISA and numerical relativity group at NASA's Goddard Spaceflight
Center
and (through Professors Buonanno and Shawhan) with the LIGO Scientific
Collaboration.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications,
and
a statement of research interests and also make arrangements to have
three
letters of recommendation. All the material should be sent by regular
mail or
email to
