Where's the Relativity?
Lorentz invariance has withstood stringent tests
in many physical systems and is the framework for
much of modern physics. So
why look for modifications? I will review some
reasons for exploring such modifications,
including calculations from
quantum gravity, and also explore consequences
in the form of particle kinematics. The talk
will focus on modified
dispersion relations and DSRs. Questions such as:
Without LI, is a preferred frame necessary? What is
meant by the
relativity principle? And how much freedom do we
have in defining a theory of relativity? provide
the backdrop for the talk.
