General relativity with a dynamical preferred frame
A preferred frame for local microphysics can be accommodated
in general relativity by introducing a unit time-like vector field
whose dynamics
is governed by a generally covariant action. Consequences of the
existence
of such a vector field for gravitational waves, weak field gravitation,
and black holes
have been investigated. Some results and open questions will be
discussed in
this talk.
