The Department of Physics invites applications for several faculty positions at the tenure or tenure-track level depending on qualifications. This recruitment is for physicists working in:

A Ph.D. is required and strong postdoctoral experience in the field is generally expected. Good teaching is a high priority of the Department. Therefore, strong teaching skills and potential are necessary.

TO APPLY: Applications should be submitted electronically, with name of search "Condensed Matter/Nano Search" or "AMO Theory Search" and applicant's name on the subject line.  Applicants should send a CV, a statement of research interests and plans, and a statement of teaching philosophy.  In addition they should arrange for a minimum of four letters of recommendation to be sent electronically with applicant's name and referee's name in the subject line.  Application materials and reference letters should ONLY* be sent electronically to:

phys-chair@physics.umd.edu

Please include the name of the search and name of the applicant in the subject line.(ie.'Condensed Matter/Nano Search-John Doe')

*If you are having problems submitting your application electronically, please contact us at 301-405-5946.

For best consideration, applications should be received by

THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYER. WOMEN AND MINORITIES ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.

Condensed Matter and NanoPhysics Experiment

The Department of Physics at the University of Maryland invites applications for up to two faculty positions in the areas of experimental condensed matter physics and nanoscience. The areas of interest for these appointments are:  the physics of strongly correlated materials or other materials with novel physical properties, materials physics, nanophysics/nanoelectronics, and solid state quantum computing/quantum information. We expect the successful candidate will complement existing interdisciplinary interactions within our extended experimental group (http://www.physics.umd.edu/rgroups/condmatex.html).    It is anticipated that the appointments will be at the tenure-track assistant professor level, but higher-level tenured appointments will also be considered if appropriate.   The preferred starting date for the positions is August of 2007.

For best consideration, applications should be received by
December 1, 2006.

Atomic, Molecular & Optical Physics Theory

The Department of Physics at the University of Maryland invites applications for a faculty position in the areas of theoretical atomic, molecular, and optical physics. The areas of interest for this appointment include:  basic light-matter interactions, quantum optics, degenerate gases, optical lattice systems, and quantum information. We expect the successful candidate will complement our experimental group (http://www.physics.umd.edu/rgroups/amo.html), will interact with AMO theorists and experimentalists at NIST (http://physics.nist.gov/Divisions/Div842/), and will foster interdisciplinary interactions with other areas such as condensed matter physics.  It is anticipated that the appointment will be at the tenure-track assistant professor level, but higher-level tenured appointments will also be considered if appropriate.   The preferred starting date for the positions is August of 2007.

For best consideration, applications should be received by
December 1, 2006.
