K5-45: SEMICONDUCTOR MODEL

PURPOSE: Model of semiconductor.

DESCRIPTION: Nails are driven into the board in straightr rows, so that the balls can roll down the slope relatively umimpeded. In this case, the apparatus simulates the motion of charge carriers in semiconductors under the action of an electric field. The field is increased by changing the tilt of the board.

SUGGESTIONS: See also demonstration K5-13: ELECTRIC CURRENT - MODEL, representing the difference between a semiconductor and a metallic conductor.

REFERENCES: (PIRA unknown.) See Demonstration Reference File.

EQUIPMENT: Electric current board and nail model with timer.

SETUP TIME: None.
