PURPOSE: To demonstrate that a piezoelectric crystal converts electrical impulses into physical vibrations.
DESCRIPTION: An electrical oscillation is converted into a mechanical vibration by a piezoelectric crystal. An audio frequency electrical oscillation from an audio oscillator (in this case a 3 KHz sine wave) is converted into a sound vibration by the piezoelectric crystal. This is a commonly technique commonly employed for creating ultrasound.
SUGGESTIONS: The power supply creates sound without a speaker or crystal, but the sound is much louder with the crystal attached.
