PURPOSE: To demonstrate the force exerted on the core of an electromagnet.

DESCRIPTION: When the switch is on, the force between the coil and the iron core suspends the coil and base a few centimeters off the table. Click your mouse on the photograph at the right to see an mpeg video of the action.

SUGGESTIONS: Make sure that the lead bricks are firmly in place to stabilize the system.
