12/28/03: An Error Correction has been made in the NLS (Lab) scores and a corresponding correction in the CsSc(Total Course) scores and letter grades of the students affected. My error was to set the threshold for "80% is enough" at 90% or 180/200 instead of 160/200. Most students were unaffected, since their scores exceeded even the too stringent standard.The correction was made by additions (always positive) to the erroneous scores.
The specific additions for each student to NLS and to CsSc (equal to 0.20 times the NLS addition, and the final letter grades have been posted to all students' WebAssign Assignment Scores. If your find these last three entries to be zero or vacant, the correction did not affect your previously reported scores and letter grade. Sorry for the trouble. JJG.

11/26/03: In HW11(Ch12), WebAssign (in QQ12.3,p375) interchanges the efficiencies of engines A and C, and therefore grades correct answers in the second part of this problem wrong even when they are correct. A notice has been sent to WebAssign and the first extra credit award for identifying an error in WebAssign's grading has been awarded to thestudent who reported the error.

11/14/03: The Maximum Possible Renormalized Score for Ex II was 174.6,
for a purely hyothetical student who got a raw score of 120 out of 120.
However, WebAssign inserted "out of 100" as a default statement because I supplied a blank instead of the correct number. This error has now been corrected on WebAssign. (This number is rather irrelevant, however, since the average and the standard deviation more easily allow you to estimate your rank in class, which determines the letter grades from the top down.Thus, no matter what the Maximum Possible Course Score turns out to be, the top 20% of the class will get A's, and the top 50% will get A's or B's.)

Note that it covers Ch 7 and 8, as does HW#7, so that both are relevant to Exam II, which will likely cover Ch 5, 6, 7, and 8. To give you flexibility in preparing for Exam II, the WebAssign due date for HW#7(Ch7&8) has been postponed until Tue 11/04/03, after Exam II. But HW#8 is also due on that dame day: Thus, TWO HW sets, HW#7 and HW#8, are due on the same day, Tue 11/04/03. Don't postpone working on set #7 because the due date seems far away. (Solutions for HW#8 should be available soon.)

If the typographical error in #17b caused you problems, you may wish to submit a re-grade request by writing a note stating your concern, attaching it to your green exam sheet, and submitting it to Dr.Griffin to be reviewed. If you find an error in a WebAssign solution, document it to Dr Griffin and get bonus points added to your HW score equal to the point value of the erroneous problem, or two points if the problem has zero point value in our assignments. Such bonus points will not affect the Maximum Possible HW Score or the "80% is Enough"
level for the maximum adjusted HW score.
