PHYS 104 - 101 (Comments)

The overall quality of this course was
  • it was a little hard for a one hundred level course (score: B)
  • Demonstrations were interesting, but the course was poorly organized. The Professor just read off slides, which we could have done at home. (score: C)
  • The name of the course is "How Things Work," but I barely got to learn about how anything worked. (score: C)
  • tests are a little harder than i expected (score: B)
  • The most interesting physics course I've taken. Learned a lot from interesting demos. I've been able to apply this class to daily events. (score: A)
  • Even though I am not a computer science or physics major, I've learned quite a bit about the basic concepts of physics. This course provided me with a full range of concepts from learning the basic concepts of the law of motion to the diferent concepts of cameras. This class is my physical science core requirement. Even though, I am a junior (Spanish Major with a Minor in Business), I definitely think this is one of my most challenging courses. (score: A)
  • It was a good course. I was not very interested in physics but Professor Einstein made it a little more enjoyable with all of his demonstrations. (score: B)
  • There were other science majors in our class. This gave them a big advantage over people like me who haven't taken science since 9th grade. (score: C)
In general, this instructor's teaching was
  • he was very helpful and patient (score: A)
  • Professor Einstein taught the course as if students had a strong background in physics. Again, he just read off slides and expected us to know what he was talking about. He's a very bright person, but a poor instructor. (score: E)
  • He only reads off slides that he didn't even create and does not do a good job of explaining well. (score: C)
  • Great guy, fair teacher, and you can tell he loves physics. (score: A)
  • Professor Einstein is a dedicated professor that enjoys teaching to students. He is a very knowledgeable professor that is motivated to teach physics. He even makes his students laugh with his corny jokes. His lecture are very detailed and to the point. The demos in class are a big help for students to analyze and grasp the concepts of this course (very helpful and interesting). (score: A)
  • Was never really clear on the topics, he got all of his ideas from a previous professor at UVA who wrote the book. (score: D)
  • Professor Einstein did not really explain the issues so that it was easy for non-science/computer people to understand. (score: C)
  • (score: B)
In general, fairness of grading was
  • he graded very fairly and took effort into account (score: A)
  • Fairness of grading was not a problem. (score: B)
  • He grades based on the results of the general class, which I think is fair. (score: B)
  • There were no surprises on the exams. The questions came from lecture and the homeworks. (score: A)
  • very fair grader. (score: A)

  • The website was always updated. (score: A)
  • Talked about and recommended PHYS106 (the physics of light). (score: A)

  • Very well-organized. The use of powerpoint slides were useful. Demos was helped emphasize and the understand what was being taught. (score: A)
  • Considering the slides were made by another professor, yes he was organized (score: B)
  • Professor Einstein always seemed well-organized for class. (score: B)
The clarity of explanations was
  • He isn't very good at clarifying. (score: D)
  • Explanations were well along the level of students. (score: A)
  • Very precise and to the point. (score: A)

  • PhD in physics. (score: A)
  • had trouble with questions that were deeper than subject matter but still on topic (score: C)

  • The only thing that interested me were the demos (score: C)
  • The topics and demonstrations were all very interesting. (score: B)
  • Depending on the topic depended on the interest of the class. Not the teachers fault. (score: D)

Expand upon any items for which you gave your instructor a low rating. If possible, suggest ways in which the instructor or course may be improved.
  • He just was not great at communicating this material well
  • the tests are a lot harder than the usual level of difficulty of the course.
  • Get a new instructor. He has no idea how to deal with poeple who are learning physics for the first time. I am supremely dissapointed in the University's choice of professor in this class and I hope for future classes a new professor will be assigned.
  • i found reading the book very very interesting but lectures will be lectures i gues, you cant really understand quantum physics in a lecture, its so friggin boring, sort of
Additional Comments
  • Don't let him teach this course again - let him work with students who are accustomed to science.
  • have a great summer! This has being the longest evaluation have written. I actually took my time to do this. wow! interesting class!
  • Great class, most practical physics course ever designed
  • i really liked how this course taught me how many different things worked and I enjoyed taking it for the new knowledge that i have aquired
