Homework 8

due November 12

1. Text, Chapter 4, problem 7

2. Text, Chapter 5, problem 4

3. Text, Chapter 5, problem 5

4. Text, Chapter 5, problem 6. The diagrams should look like Figures 5-14, 5-17, 5-20, but draw above or below any VCO the wave shape it should put out, and near any envelope generator kind of envelope (like top of Figure 5-16) it generates. For example, the drum might look like this:
You may replace any or all of the described sounds by ones in the following audio files (mention the name of the file, as below)

5. (a) Write the digital representation of the first half-period of the sine wave in the upper part of Figure 7-26 (page 211), sampled as indicated (every second tick on the time axis) as a 4-bit stream of binary numbers. Then convert it into a stream of decimal numbers.
(b) Consider the stream of decimal numbers: 0 1 2 3 4 5 4 3 2 1. Convert it to 3-bit binary. If this is the digital version of the first half period of one of the standard wave shapes, what is that wave shape?
(c) Suppose a sine wave of period 1 sec is sampled only every 0.75 sec. By means of a diagram, show that the digital version is then indistinguishable from a sine wave of period 3 sec.
