A new commercial from Chevron (you can view it here) shows the Eiffel tower turned into a wind turbine, with the voiceover:

“Wind” (30 second version):

As a source of energy, wind power alone can’t do it all. Because just to power a city like Paris would take 20,000 turbines. We believe that meeting all our energy needs will take innovation, conservation…and collaboration. Will you join us?

“Wind” (60 second version):

The wind is clean. It’s unlimited. But as a source of energy, wind power alone can’t do it all. Because just to power a city like Paris would take 20,000 turbines. We believe that meeting all our energy needs will take innovation, conservation and collaboration. Will you join us?

I agree that "wind power alone can't do it all."  But Paris (and the rest of France) already obtain more than 91% of their electricity from carbon-free sources (mostly nuclear and hydroelectric).  In fact, France is a major exporter of electricity.  So why would they need wind power?  (And, why would they need Chevron?)

P.S. Wind power can be a major source of electricity for countries with a lot of wind and a lot of area for turbines - Denmark supplies 20% of their electric power with about 5,000 wind turbines.
