Tristan Joseph Fuhrer was born 9:26 PM on May 4, 2005. You can see cute pictures here.
Here are some cool pictures taken by Igor Zutic while we were snorkeling off Maui, HI in December 2003.
My favorite holiday is Halloween. You can check out some Halloween pictures (mostly by Cynthia):
Check out Cynthia's Imagegoddess page.
I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and raised in Houston. I received a BS in physics at the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley (under Alex Zettl). I also did postdoctoral research at Berkeley for two years with Alex Zettl and Paul McEuen.
I turned 1 billion seconds old during my trip across the country to my new job as Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland - a great way to mark this milestone in my life. After four years in Austin and nine years in the S. F. Bay Area I'm still adjusting to life on the East Coast, but it's going OK.
My wife Cynthia and I met in San Francisco in 1994. After a two-year stint in a tiny (10 feet wide) row house on Capitol Hill, we bought a beautiful bungalow in the Hyattsville Historic District. Cynthia is also a photographer - you can take a look at some of her work here.
