Arthur La Porta

Area of Research: Biophysics

Description of Reserach Area: My research involves using advanced optical techniques such as optical traps to study enzymes that are important in molecular and cell biology. In particular, we seek to understand how processive Nucleic Acid based enzymes such as polymerases, helicases or topoisomerases perform their tasks.

Possible Projects: Tasks might include building and/or testing electronic or optical components, or performing relatively simple biological tasks, such as preparing reagents, or purifying DNA samples from cell cultures or from PCR reactions. (Projects will be available beginning Spring 2007)

Pre-Requisites: Lab course work in electronics, optics or basic biology

Compensation: Negotiable

Past Projects Successes: New Professor
