 APPLICATION INFORMATION


You can take care of the entire process via the Web.  You will have to complete forms  required by the Graduate School as well as the additional forms requested by the Physics Department.  

Note that a "four letter program code" must be entered on the application form and the letter of reference form.  The code is "PHYS"

We appreciate your interest in our graduate program in Physics here at the University of Maryland, College Park Campus.   


Application procedure

  • You should apply via the web.

    • Click Graduate School application page.  Fill out and submit the forms.  Within 24 hours you should receive an automated e-mail from the physics admission software asking you to login to your "ASF" form and provide some supplemental information.  After you save data you can log out of the ASF and return with additional data later.  Note that once you submit your ASF it is no longer possible to make changes.

     

    • We prefer letters of recommendation to be sent electronically.  In the ASF form please provide the e-mail addresses of each person who will be writing on your behalf.  They will receive a request to submit their letters electronically.   If they prefer to send a paper document, please print copies of the recommendation forms.  Note that these should be mailed to Enrollment Services Operations (ESO), Room 0130 Mitchell Building, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742.

Don't forget that our deadline for Fall admission is February 1st for all applicants.  We do not accept applications for spring semester admissions.

We require:

  • GRE (Graduate Record Examination)

    • General Scores

    • Physics  Subject Scores

  • 3 letters of recommendation

  • TOEFL & TWE scores for international students.  

    • Please note that only TOEFL scores sent electronically by ETS will be accepted. 

    • The University of Maryland institutional code is 5814.

  • Transcripts

    • Originals must be sent to Enrollment Services Operations (ESO), Room 0130 Mitchell Building, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742.

  • A $60 application processing fee

    • Requests to waive this fee are NOT granted.
