December 2008 MeetingMain Page

Recommended Hotel

The recommended hotel for the meeting is the Marriott Inn & Conference Center, a high-quality hotel located on the edge of the University of Maryland campus. The walking distance to the Stamp Student Union (where the meetings will be held) is about 0.7 mile / 1.1 km. The rooms have wired Internet service which is free of charge. (I hear that they provide cables, but you might bring one just in case.) We have arranged for a block of rooms at the deeply discounted rate of $139 per night for either a room with a king bed or a room with two queen beds. The room block runs from the night of the 14th through the night of the 18th (i.e. check-out on the 19th); if you are arriving on the 13th, make your reservation by phone and they may give you the conference rate or even a special holiday rate for that night. As of November 21, there are still a number of two-queen-bed rooms available.

You can book a room at the special rate in either of the following ways:

Note: There are a fixed number of rooms per night available at the special rate. The room block is being held until November 23 (extended from the original date of November 21). At this point, if all our rooms fill up, it will not be possible to add any more rooms at the special rate.

Alternative Hotels

There are other hotels located near campus that may be somewhat less expensive, but they are all significantly inferior in quality and/or too far to walk from. The following three are worth considering if minimizing cost is important to you. (Hotel locations with respect to campus are shown on the map below.)
